Summary:
“The most beautiful bridge in the world.” - Le Corbusier
“The most important bridge ever built.” - Michael Aaron Rockland
On November 16th 1776, Colonel William Montgomery retreated across the Hudson River from Fort Washington, New York to Fort Lee, New Jersey during the American Revolutionary War — which was followed by the Ten Crucial Days the following month.
151 years later Montgomery Babcock Case, a cousin of Thomas Montgomery Marriøtt, erected the George Washington Bridge at the same location. Considered an “Eighth Wonder of the World”, it is the busiest motor vehicle bridge on earth and home to the world's largest free-flying American flag.
